Extreme Weather at Ground Level
complete
Chris Brook
ATIS for EGPH start off saying the wind was at 75kts, gradually lowering to the correct windspeed of 10kts as I decended. Noticed today, whilst chekcing various airports weather as I flew over, they all have extreme winds (60kts+) and generally precip too (but not always) despite actual forecast being for 3-4kts and clear.

fixed
A further improvement is made in Beta 5 (pending). Note that XP12 Map view will show ambient winds vs. surface winds, but ATIS and actual surface winds should be correct.

This has been implemented in Beta 4.

hifi-admin: seems like it’s not fixed with B4

Mathias Vercauteren: It appears resolved in lower elevation areas below 1000ft, but not above this. Fix is pending. Thank you.

Mathias Vercauteren: After further review, even after implementing additional surface wind layer considerations for better accuracy regardless of surface elevation(for beta 5), this map weather view will always show wind at your existing altitude, as it appears design to do. The ATIS should be correct as well as wind conditions at the surface in all cases.

hifi-admin: ok thanks for the info. Idk if it’s related to AS but in avitab the metar isn't showing correctly. Some very similar issues as the XP map, QNH1070 and temperature -70C

planned
Currently, all conditions are controlled and forced in an "ambient" fashion and your current flight conditions will be replicated at all altitudes/locations. Thus in-sim weather lookup and ATIS, etc will be showing your flight conditions, not surface conditions or other airport conditions. This is planned for improvement moving forward.

I noticed similar today for KCLT. The METAR being reported for KCLT to my aircraft EFB started out with winds of 75 kts and a temperature of -48 while I was at FL350. As I descended, the METAR conditions at my destination seemed to follow what I would expect at my current aircraft altitude and not ground level. The conditions in the ASXP12 window for conditions were correct for the various altitude levels, but the simulator seemed to depict what was at current aircraft altitude instead of ground level.
